With the promise of sunshine and shorts weather still a way out for most of the country, here are some tips for maintaining sun-kissed, hydrated skin during the long winter months.

Moisturize regularly: Moisturizing skin is important because it helps to keep the skin hydrated and prevent dryness. Dry skin can be itchy, flaky, and can even lead to cracking, which can be painful and make the skin more susceptible to infection. Moisturizers help to lock in the skin's natural moisture, creating a barrier that keeps water from escaping. They also help to soothe irritated skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Use a thick, oil-based moisturizer to lock in moisture and protect your skin from the dry winter air.

Use a humidifier: Running a humidifier in your home can help add moisture to the air, which can help keep your skin hydrated. A humidifier in the winter can also help alleviate nasal congestion and other symptoms caused by dry air. Plus, it can help make the air feel warmer, which might leave you thinking twice about turning up your thermostat.

Limit shower time and use lukewarm water: Long, hot showers can strip the skin of its natural oils, making it even more dry. Use lukewarm water and limit shower time to 5-10 minutes. Not to mention, you’ll save on your water bill in the long run!

Drink plenty of water: While this may seem obvious, staying hydrated is important for healthy skin, especially during winter. Aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day or half of your body weight in ounces (i.e., a 150 pound female should aim to drink 75 ounces of water daily).

Exfoliate: Exfoliation can help your skin from getting the winter blues. Use a gentle scrub or chemical exfoliant to help remove dead skin cells that can clog pores and lead to dry, dull texture. Just keep in mind that excessive exfoliation can actually do the opposite and dry out your skin. Aim to exfoliate no more than once or twice a week.

Take Gut to Glow: In addition to increasing your daily water intake, taking Gut to Glow is a great way to maintain moisture from the inside out! Just four capsules a day of our LRDR™ super microbe, combined with additional skin nourishing ingredients, it is designed to help you look vibrant during winter and beyond.

The dull days of winter don’t have to wreak havoc on your skin. Use the tips above to improve your outer radiance. And when the sun makes its way out of winter hibernation, your skin will feel like it was basking in its glow all year round!
